To all,
I have thought for a long time about posting on this site- many of my sleepless nights I search through these forums, as so many of you do, I am sure, trying to find bits of myself in others' words. I am 21 years old and have been in chronic hip pain for 9 years. I tore through the cartilage in my hip but it was not correctly diagnosed for six years. I have had two unsuccessful surgeries and am looking for another option- the only for sure option is a hip replacement, which doctors don't really want to do when you're 21.
The only small relief I get is from Percocet, which is getting harder and harder to get from my doctor without seeming like I am addicted to it. Thus, I usually have to weigh my bad days/nights from the worst days/nights. I don't really have any questions but I figured I would put myself out there and get to talk to those who actually can empathize. Although, the one question I do have for people is- the pain I have is in the very center of my hip- so lidocaine patches and TENS units don't do anything for my pain; I have tried meditation and biofeedback and acupuncture but nothing penetrates to the inside of my hip- does anyone have any "outside of the box" ideas to distract?
thanks

Hi gwake,

Welcome to ChronicPainConnection. I'm glad you decided to post and let us get to know you. We have a great group here who can understand what you're going through.

It's got to be rough dealing with chronic pain at such a young age. I understand your concern about asking for more medication. Doctors don't usually like to prescribe opioids to begin with, but especially for younger people. I think they're afraid you'll build up a tolerance and won't be able to find anything that will work several years down the road.

Have you ever talked with your doctor about a neurostimulator? It's implanted, so it's a big step, but sometimes it can provide relief when nothing else works. I don't know if it would be effective for your particular problem or not, but it might be worth asking about. Here's a link to more info on neurostimulators: http://www.healthcentral.com/c...-and-pain-pumps.html

Again, we're glad to have you here. Please feel free to share your thoughts, ask questions, or just vent anytime.

Karen

Welcome gwake, Sorry it took me so long to welcome you. I don't have any new suggestions for you, sorry. Just know that you are not alone. I'm so sorry you have started your pain journey at such a young age. I've been in pain now for over ten years after having five back surgeries. I'm available if you need someone to talk to. Have a low pain day. Scooter
