My splint doesn't feel right. It's now irritating the roof of my mouth. It's never done this before. I don't know if that's because my jaw/teeth are moving or if it's just not fitting properly. I don't get any help from my jaw doctor. I've seen him once, and the rest of the time it's someone filling in for him.
CM, Do you know what your splint is supposed to do? And, you may want to look for another dr. since your current one seems to be MIA. There are good dr.s out there who actually help and I'm sure that the splints shouldn't be irritating the roof of your mouth. It may need an adjustment. Hang in there, splints suck, especially top ones. ~Heather
I do not know what the splint is doing or is meant to do. I was NEVER told that, and I was so nervous about other things that I forgot to ask.
Seeing another doctor is not an option right now as I don't have insurance that covers TMJ/TMD. The initial office visit for a doctor (recommended to me by someone on this site) would be $130. With everything that I've had to pay for, another doctor would be too much for me right now. I'm just determined that this doctor will do what he is supposed to do. Right now, I pay out of pocket--$30. for each chiropractic visit, $48. a week for my weekly massage, $50 to $80. for each visit to my general practitioner if it's about this issue. $40 to $110 for any medication designed to relax my muscles. I paid $150 Friday for an eye examination and new glasses to rule out eye problems as a cause of the dizziness. That's not considering the money I've spent on books, discs, vitamins, foods, etc designed to help.
I'm so sorry to hear about your splint not working, and the insurance issues. It gets very expensive.
What about contacting your local dental or medical ethics board to find out your rights with your current doc? Or just telling his office that that's the step you plan to take if you're not able to get the follow-up treatment. Do you think they would respond if they knew you were willing to take your complaints to the next level?

I don't think threatening them would do any good. They'd tell me to just take a walk. What I plan to do is not leave the office until I'm satisfied. I also plan to write down any questions I have before the visit and make sure the doctor answers each one. I refuse to allow the doctor to dictate my choices. I'm making the decisions now.
good for you. definitely write down the questions. I wish I remembered to do that more -I often get emotional and then everything goes out the window. Good luck.
