I should have asked this earlier, the appointment is tomorrow. But anyway..
I've had a guelph (sp?) splint since fall '06. I wore it 24 hours (except for eating) until January when another doctor made a night splint. From then on, I only wore it during the day.
I was referred to a new doctor to talk about arthroscopic surgery, but in the first visit he focused mostly on my history and the existing splints.
The day splint covers my rear bottom teeth. He says that this is causing the front bottom teeth to rise, further harming my bite. My rear teeth don't touch, and I'm not sure how long it's been like that. I never noticed until it was pointed out.
Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone else wear a similar splint and not have this problem?
My insurance covers TMJD treatment, but it specifically excludes "mandibular appliances". They're not cheap, and I'm not particularly happy about needing another one.
