Does anyone have a recommendation for a pain management physician in NM, CA, OR or WA? I am currently living abroad (Denmark), and am having a horrible time navigating their healthcare system. They will not prescribe anything close to narcotic to help my pain issues related to a car accident suffered 8 months ago. I actually went to go see an orthopedist here whose diagnosis was to "run 10 kilometers a day or bicycle longer than 60 minutes to release natural endorphins". He wants me to run, when I can barely stand or walk (surgeries on left ankle, left knee, right ankle). The doctors in Denmark were horrified to learn that I had been prescribed at times vicodin and oxycodone in the 4 months after my accident. They said I would only have been on such medications for the week after my accident, had it happened in Denmark. How horrifying, when you think that I spent two weeks in the hospital for surgeries. My 6 hour knee surgery would have been hell without anlgesia! Don't mean to sound so bitter, but I am beside myself with frustration and pain. I get the fact that people can become addicted to opiate medication. But I can't imagine a life suffered in agony. I'm a responsible person who just wants some relief. I don't understand.
Anyways, planning a trip to the states, and may have to break the bank and pay out of pocket to hopefully see someone who can help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
