I thought that my Kadian was causing my constipation all along and I was just about to go through a morphine pump trial but cancelled it. I have had a hysterectomy and cannot take HRT drugs due to high blood pressure issues. I therefore, take clonidine at night to suppress my hot flashes and have just learned by "Googling" this drug that it can also cause constipation. I am going to slowly tapper off of Clonidine and see if my constipation clears up. I can't believe than NONE of my doctors caught this one. I was about to get a morphine pump for crying out loud!!!! Again, this is another example of "patient heal thyself". All I can say is thank God for the fact that I have the resources to find out this information on my own.

Has anyone else had this same combination or been in the same predicament? I would love to hear from you.

Thanks! SoBlest

WELL, SOBLEST I FINALLY FOUND YOU,BUT WHAT A JOB TRYING TO GET REGISTERED TO E-MAIL YOU. JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW I'LL BE IN TOUCH.
I PURCHASED A STOOL SOFTENER WITH LAXATIVE AND IT WORKED QUITE WELL TO RELIEVE THE CONSTIPATION,
A FAMILY MEMBER USES SENNA AND HE HAS GREAT LUCK WITH THAT. HE STARTS OFF WITH 2 CAPSULES/PILLS THEN IF NEEDED ONLY 1 PER NIGHT UNTIL CONSTIPATION IS ALLEVIATED

Hi Pauline,

Sorry that it has taken me so long to reply to you. I have been having a lot of problems with my computer lately and have to get a new one! The one I am using is an old standby and I hope it lasts until the new one arrives!

I am also using a vegatable Senna laxative. I take three in the morning and three in the evening. That seems to be the right balance for me with everything else that I am using. Even though I am now up to 90mg of Kadian per day and 60mg at night, that still works. My new problem with the daytime dose is that I am I feel like I am in some sort of a brain fog. I am going to write a post about that later. I have traded one evil for another. Yes the higher dosage helps with the pain but now it takes me longer to type, I forget things more, I can't think of what I want to say...it goes on and on. I am a speech/language pathologist and so the language issues here are really frightening for me! I know that it is the medicine. I see my regular physician this week and will talk with him about it as well. I am glad that you family member gets relief with the senna as well.

As far as having your name removed and restored, I am not sure what you are referring to. I would think that would be a question for Chronic Pain. It doesn't bother me at all Smiler

Take Care,
SoBlest
