Hello, I'm also new to the group, but not to tmj. This all started when I was young, grinding my teeth, then when I was 21 I fell and ever since then progressively worse. I then had braces and teeth pulled and everything got really bad. Things were so bad I could hardly function dizziness, nausea, ringing of ears you know the whole gammet. I've been wearing a splint, had physical therapy, I take elavil, and have seen a surgeon and am still considering it. Glad I found this site and wish I'd sumbled on it a couple of years ago......Sheila
Hi Sheila, I'm sorry you had to find us, but glad you did. I'm also sorry to hear about your TMJ disorder. Does the elavil work for you? If not, or if you still have residual pain, have you ever considered seeing a pain specialist? I know for myself it is one of the things that has helped me the most out of all the treatments and surgeries. What did the surgeon say? Anyway, welcome.. let us know if you have any questions! Stacy
Stacy, The elavil helps with the headaches and helps me sleep. I was diagnosed with a lung/autoimmune disease two years ago and had to go on prednisone which actually helped with the jaw. I'm now weaning off to get my jaw fixed because the surgeon said I had to be off the steroids first. I'm trying to deal with two things at once. The surgeon said I basically have no condyle on right side and recommends the fat graft surgery. I'm nervous about any surgey on the jaw. What surgeries have you had? Sheila
