I was outraged at this article, as I am sure you will be. But also, this is a scary thought to those of us who have had to go to the emergency room for pain management or to our doctors to get more than one prescription a month for our pain medications. Please read this.

Yes, this case is absolutely AWFUL. I can't imagine a physician turning on his patient like that. What happened to "do no harm"?

I will be posting about advocacy issues like this on my blog soon. If you would like I will cover this story in more detail.

Unfortunately there are many doctors who have been prosecuted for prescribing pain medication to chronic pain patients, and this is something that we as CP patients REALLY need to stand up for and FIGHT!

Hello

This was certainly a very distressing story!
I first head of Mr. Paey over at painaid and was very happy to sign a petition in efforts to help Mr. Paey.
It was not too long ago (within the past year) that I was also notified that Mr. Paey had gotten out of prison and finally won his case.
I was very pleased to find that the American Pain Foundation was all over this issues and had done a great deal in efforts to help him.
I personally find it terrorfying to even consider that I could be arrested for my medications and have to go broke fighting to get out of jail.
I cannot help but think that even though the rest of us, may feel semi safe, it's very important for us to keep up on the legilature and all the letter writing and advocacy for pain patients going on in the US today.
This case was the very reason that I joined in and have been writing the letters to my congressman through pain aid advocacy to keep myself educated on the current issues going on in the legislature regarding medication and medical policy's.
Pain Aid makes it a very easy and assesable process for all of us to become active. I even noticed since being on the site for the past 2 weeks, that Mr. Rowe creates sharepost here asking for others to join them in the fight.

Here's a link to all the articles on pain Aid regarding their efforts in advocacy for Mr. Paey if your interested

What happened to this man is CRAZY.!
Cruel and Unusual doesn't even describe it.
Just when I think I'd heard it all.

Your absolutly right, this case was & is crazy.
It makes me so angry to read it, I can hardly stand it.
I try and remember that it could happen to me and always keep my meds in proper containers and I just don't really talk about them to people that know where I live or anything like that.
I try not to drive any longer, as if your driving under the influence of pain meds, you can be arrested just like a driver under the influence of Alcohol. I saved an article on this very subject from my local newspaper a few months ago. It worries me for many reasons, as I'd not want to hurt someone either. So I don't know what to think?

Hi Adrian,

Yes, these forums are still very active. Some threads, like this one, haven't been used for awhile, but others get daily use. The most active thread right now is one called "The Daily Grind..." It's under the category "Off Topic." It's kind of an ongoing conversation where people share how their day is going, problems they may be having, or victories they'd like to share.

Please join us in one of the ongoing threads or feel free to start a new one. If there's anything you need, we'll try to help. Or if you just want to chat, we'd love to have you join our conversation.
