I have read several posts that say that many times when bipolars are in mania phase their sexual activities are extremely high. My husband is almost the oposite. Seems when he is coming off his mania is when he wants to be close, have sex and share with me. During mania he wants to work, work, work. Does this sound familiar to others? Is mania handled differently by different people? I am new to this and so confused.
Thanks

Your husband sounds just like mine. I have been married for 10 yrs. I just realized that he most likely is bp. He is in denial and in a mania phase and it is all about work. He told me,"you're not worth losing my job over". The sex part right now is non existant. He doesn't touch me in anyway. It looks like we are getting a divorce before a diagnoses and a long road ahead. Should I be happy and relieved? It is so hard on spouses and families. I found this website resently and reading other posts have kept me sane. Every story is exactly the same with different circumstances. I feel so alone. The kids think Dad is great-like a big kid. But now they are teens, they can sense that something might not be right.

hypersexuality is only 1 part of an overall symptom of doing things to the point of reckless and endangerment. it isn't a symptom all to itself. some bipolars have mixed features in that they suffer from both mania and depressive symptoms within the same time period. that is they can do the work of 10 men and build the pyramids but sit and cry and not do soap carvings that they might enjoy doing all within the same time period. the point of diagnosis is that the person meet most of the points on the diagnosis criteria. doesn't mean they have to meet every single one exactly as printed. perhaps the no interest but yet manic may be that their brain just wants to pursue other things when it is going full blast. sorry, no help there i guess. Smiler
