I am wondering what is the best way myself as the non bipolar spouse to react or act once my bipolar husband is in the shut down phase? I try to always be understanding, kind, patient, and bend over backwards to not aggrivate the situation. Should I just shut up and wait til it blows over or should I continue giving him verbal support, telling him I love him and trying to make him happy? Sometimes he goes for weeks of silence. Is this time frame normal? What is the average shut down time? I just want to act/react the way that will help him and our relationship the most. I am new to this and not sure how to handle it. Bren
