I have a question about Geodon. Luckily I am no longer taking it, but I am concerned about the side effects I experienced while taking it and not seeing them reported as usual side effects.
I experienced severe prolonged depression and anxiety to the point of agoraphobia. Everything I tried didn't work and I just got worse. After over 2 years of these side effects and finally go to a new doctor, I was taken off the Geodon and within a few weeks, I was no longer depressed or riddled with high anxiety.
I think what prevented me and my doctors from realizing that Geodon was the culprit, was that these are not listed side effects (as far as I can tell).
I am curious as to whether anyone else has experienced these particular side effects while taking Geodon?
Thank you,
Joanne

Hi, Joannw. I can't give you a specific answer about the Geodon, but here are four general rules about meds treatment:

1. We're all biologically unique, so people will experience different reactions to the same drug, including side effects.

2. Many side effects are transient, but if they persist you need to work with your psychiatrist to either change the dose or find a med that you can tolerate.

3. Major side effects are not a fair trade-off for getting stabilized. The doctor's job is to make you feel bettter, not worse.

4. You may have to keep badgering your psychiatrist. The onus is on you to establish a working partnership that involves him/her listening to you and respecting you. If your psychiatrist is deulsional is about who the boss is in this relationship, then it is time to assert your prerogative as a patient - fire him/her and hire someone who will listen. I notice you did just that and I hope things are going well with your new pdoc
