I am new. Have spent my entire life (56 yrs) being horribly anxious, nervous, overreacting, depressed. Never had good relationships either having married numerous times. On disability due to illnesses but also such chronic fatigue that I just cannot work and take care of myself so it is one or the other and I can't afford to hire someone to help me.

Having second mtg soon w/psychiatrist soon who thinks I could be bipolar II. Have been on so many different antidepressants at least 16 yrs with no real results. Of course if I don't take the antidepressants I am off the walls. I am SO READY for some relief. I feel like life has totally passed me by. I were to die early (naturally or by accident - not my own hand) it would be such a relief. It is so hard to have the same "nothing" day over and over.

I started having seizures 9/05. Does anyone know if seizures and bipolar are connected?

I don't dare attempt to answer this, you really need a medical professional for this. But I will say I seem to recall reading about bipolar disorder affecting similar regions of the brain as, say, epilepsy. And medication prescribed for seizures, such as Lamictal, is often prescribed for bipolar disorder.

I'd be curious to hear your diagnosis, you describe classic bipolar symptoms.

As I so frequently say, life becomes SO much easier when the right medication is found. I hope your pdoc can get you the relief you need and deserve.

Stay in touch and let us know how it's going.

I'm Bipolar I, and although I've never had a siezure the meds I take are both anti-convulsants. Topiramate and Lamtrigine.I don't know how this relates to actually having seizures, but I do know that these meds are now being used to treat certain cases of bipolar diorder.
I was on anti-depressants for years with not the best results for me...but the anxiety and depression off of them was life threatening. It took a long time to find the right mixture that worked for me. I really feel for you.
You really do need to see a doctor, not only for your mental health but for your physical. Seizures can be serious. I hope he has some answers and you can find releif. Take care.

Hello,
I hope you get some answers and the right meds soon because you can feel so much better. I was diagnosed 4 years ago at 46 with Bipolar 2 after I got very very depressed and was put on Prozac and got manic on Prozac.

I am on an antidepressent again now because the mood stabilizer med wasn't enough to keep me from being too depressed so that combo works for me. Let me reiterate though different meds work for different people so don't get discouraged if you start something and it does not work right away.

As far as seizures my son (20 now) was diagnosed with frontal lobe seizures (absence type seizures) at age 13 then diagnosed Bipolar 1 at age 14. The nice thing is that so many meds can be used for both conditions. Jeff started on Depakote for his seizures then when his BP was diagnosed they added Lithium. His seizures are very stable. I have read several situations where someone has both but I don't know any data. Hang in there, you can feel better. Pat
