Hi, my mother has depression and I want to help her. She stopped taking her medication and refuses to see the doctor. She does suffer from depression, tried committing suicide (multiple times), and use to take medcine. She has limited income and does not want to spend her money for help. My questions are
1. Do all drugs require a doctor's prescription? If the answer is no, can I buy these drugs for her? If so where.
If the answer is yes. Can I buy these drugs outside of the united states either from mexico, canada, china?
it is good that you want to help your mom but if she refuses to see a doctor and doesn't take her meds when she knows she needs them then you buying them for her may not help any better. the income thing might just be a excuse she gives you. it may be that she is too depressed to care what happens to her. to answer your questions though: the pharmaceutical drugs need to be prescribed by a M.D. and you could possibly get them 'cross the border but i think, or at least last I remember, getting them from canada or mexico is illegal (something about the senior citizens i read) and i, myself, would be afraid of getting anything from 'cross the ocean. perhaps you could see if her doctor first will talk to you and secondly if so, if he/she could get her on a pharmaceutical prescription assistance plan. a lot of the pharmaceutical companies are now offering an assistance plan where the medications are either at a large discount or free but, your mom has to qualify based on income and such, and her doctor would have to certify it as a need. otherwise, try your local community mental health center, they may have programs or know of any that could help. point is, your mom has to be willing to go to the doc and take the pills. good luck!
