The saga continues... Last night my husband had an appoitment with his pdoc, and was asked to leave by the receptionists and even threatened the police. Maybe I should give some background on this one. Last month my hubbys appointment was cancled, I think they booked and then the doctor wanted off. It happens- they called let him now and rescheduled, but not for another month. He told them he needed scripts in order to go another month. I then called them and told him that he was almost out of his lamictal and lithium. They did call in one script but not the other. In fact it took almost a week to get his lithium- he went two days without it. It was very iritating for me to have call every day to try and get my hubbys scripts, but i did finally get them
Then last night at his appointment he mad it clear to the receptionist that they f#$@ed up. I think he just wanted an apology but he was so harsh and mean, and the foul language. The doctor has been switching him slowly from lamictal from lithium, but I dont think the lamctal is helping as well with his aggression- which is what I would have told the doc if we had gotten in.
Now I know that my husbands behaiver was not acceptable- but he was in need of seeing his doctor. They work at a mental health facility, granted I know that they are not doctors, but they should have some sort of training in this. Instead of tring to difuss the situation the office manager was full of attitude and was obnoxios. I wanted to hit her. My hubby did not hit her, just wanted to make that clear.
Has this ever happened to anyone else??? I just cant imagine this. Now he only has two days worth of lamictal and we are at their mercy to call it in. I will be on the phone today struggleing to make him a appointment with a new pdoc, but I know that can take sometimes months. It really was not fair. He has been aggressive at home, that is why I went to the appointment last night, he wanted me to tell the doc. Now I feel like we are up a creek without a paddle.

Psychiatrists have to be among the most lazy, narrow minded, self-absorbed jerks in medicine. I really believe that they became psychiatrists because it is easy. It is. It's no effort at all for them to say - Well, I guess that mix isn't working - try this medicine. They don't deal with side effects. They don't feel the hopelessness that comes with having to take the meds in the first place and then having them not work in the second.

Any pdoc that would allow his patient to run out of medication should have his license yanked. In fact, if your husband suffered any physcal loss as a result of this, you should sue the doctor. Maybe you should tell him you are going to sue him just to shake him up.

At any rate, finding a new doctor is definitely the right step.

As far as the time factor goes - if you can't get into see another pdoc before his meds run out, go to your family doctor (or someone else's if you don't have one) explain the situation and ask him/her to write the approapriate scrip. Take the bottles with you. Assure the doctor that it is only temporary and that you would rather not be in this situation but the last pdoc took it out of your hands. ALSO - ask him to get a Lithium level on your husband, and check the Lamictal level (I vaugely remember that there is something to test for with that med) Also ask your internist for a psychiatrist referral.

Emotions Anonymous
Recovery Inc
High dose Omega 3 EFA (fish oil capsules)
Keep him away from sugar.
Try to get him to excercise.

The meds will not stabilize this illness on thier own and anyone who tells you they do is full of it.

Hang in there sweetie, you are doing fine.

Yes my daughter has been carried out like a surfboard twice by security. ( 6 men ) - (Once after decking the Doc) She is always taken and put in the hospital for a couple weeks. I was so ashamed but the staff just smiled and said "happens all the time" while locking down all doors leading to other pts. and exits.
