My 25 year old son is bipolar. He's been calling me all hours of the day and night very manic can't sleep. Yesterday he decided to go off all his meds. I don't know what to do. Can anyone give me advise? He was diagnosed last June so I am really new at this. He lives over 300 miles from me and travels with his job. Since the beginning of this manic episode, he has called from North Carolina, Georgia, New York and Chicago. Today he won't answer his phone, I don't know where he is. Please answer if you have any suggestions. Thanks
So sorry to hear about what's going on with your son. Being far away from him makes it all the more difficult.
If he does call or you can reach him, the best thing for him to do is to call his doctor and get his medication adjusted. When there are signs of mania, that's the first thing--to call one's doctor and take steps to keep it from escalating.
If you don't hear from him in a day or so, you might call his employer and say you need to get a message to him. Unfortunately, a manic episode makes it difficult to do your job.
It's hard to interfere when he is an adult, but mainly, I think you want him to know you're there for him. Is there any way you can get in touch with his doctor?
