My 4 year old son is in the process of being diagnosed bipolar. He's been diagnosed ADHD, ODD, and has anxiety. He's been hospitalized due the extreme level of violence in the home and I have an infant. My question is, do the rages usually take place at home where there are rules and guidelines, structure? My son has started raging in public but doesn't rage when with other people.... I'm confused? Is this typical? Is it because there isn't an expectation with others? What? I need some help here. I'm really trying to understand. Thanks.

We had the same experience with my stepson. He was much more prone to rage around his Mother than anywhere else. Unfortunately as he grew and the rages got worse, he would have them anywhere.

Sounds like his diagnosis is very similar to my stepson as well. Stepson was 6 when we started the diagnosis process, he is 9 now and we still do not have anything official.

I would recommend reading "The Bipolar Child" by Papolos if you are looking to understand. It is a good start.
