is it common for depression and anxiety to cause a person to abuse drugs.
I know that wen I stuck to my anti-depressants I was able to fight the urges.
I tried it for the forst time after my Unit left for Iraq and I couldnt go.
I have spiraled down ever since. There's so much more.
Before the abuse I was a hypochondriac. My worst vice was cigarettes. I used to have to keep the tv on at night sometimes to keep myself from getting anxiety from the thought of dying on my children from smoking. Not a day would go by I wouldnt think of death.
Now? Im abusing. The only time i stopped was when I stuck to my anti depressants.

You have children? That alone should be enough for you to know that you not only need to quit for yourself but most importantly for them. You seem to already know this or you would not be posting -use that and go to an narcanon meeting (they're free)you can find one closest to you on the web or in the phone book- find some support systems there that are in the same boat and keep on your anti-depression meds-talk to your doctor about the abuse and get back on TRACK! You CAN do it and you must do it.

Dear Rae Anne,

You posted that you need help...followed by a thank you. Does this mean that you too have a concern with abusing drugs and anxiety?

Substance abuse and anxiety often go hand in hand as abusing drugs is a way to alleviate the anxiety (as a way to self-medicate). Receiving support and treatment for the issue of substance abuse most often works best when receiving support and treatment for the anxiety at the same time.

That said, medications can and do work for anxiety and the desire for self-medicating can go away.

Please let me know if this is your concern, or if by reading the previous posts you got the answers you were looking for.

Best,
Kimberly Tyler

Tricia, I understand how imprisoning anxiety and depression can be. Drugs are obviously not the answer. That will only add to the mental downward spiral you are already in. I have dealt with anxiety attacks and depression for many years. been through couseling and have been med's for qite sometime. They both worked to a point, but did'nt cure the issues. Geting myself active in the gym was a big part. In October 2007, I was introduced to a nutritional supplement called Vemma. It is an organic liquid supplement that has lowered my stress level, removed the the anxiety, leveled my moods, improved my sleep and well being. It has also allowed me to get off all of my med's with no side effects or recurring problems. It is the best I have felt in years. check it at miraclesofmangosteenminerals.com If you want more info, contact me at dscott858@sbcglobal.net it does work

Ya, i think it's very common. we all look for a different way out... someway to escape the pain... for me it was eating... for others drug abuse. i talked to some doctors and they said my internal chemistry was all out of wack and that that was causing the depression. i started taking liquid trace minerals and barley grass powder and after 6 months i'm going great, feel a tons better, and am actually excited to get up in the morning. hope that helps!

I am not a doctor, just sharing my personal experience as I have had depressions and anxiety for sometime. The best way to get over anxiety and depression is to take a break from your regular schedule, go out, and take good sleep. This helps in clearing the mind and try consulting a specialist who can suggest you as how you can get over your problem. You can have all necessary information about this on http://www.xanax-effects.com Rather than going on drugs, one should look for the reason behind there problem . Keeping your self busy and changing the schedule also helps sometimes to get over stress and depression.
