Hi im 19 and a few months ago i started to get severe pains inmy chest and my breathing was very bad. I have a heart condition and thus i was taken into hospital in case it was a cardiac problem. thankfully i was told it was nothing to do with my heart but they couldnt tell me what it was. I kept havin the pain and so i went to my doctor in college and it was she who suggested i probably have acid reflux. she prescribed medication and it worked. i felt great!
However even though im still on the medication in the last two days the same sensation and pain in my chest has returned. And my breathing is laboured.
It seemed to occur after i had eaten quite a large meal all in one go.
Im not sure what to do to relieve it and i was wondering are respiratory problems a common sysmptom of acid reflux?
im still worried its something with my heart.

please help!
Thanks!

Hi there,
I completely understand where you are coming from...Eating a large meal WILL upset GERD and make symptoms bad...I had the chest pain, pressure and sometimes it would take DAYS...even weeks to get the symptoms to completely go away. My advice to you is to eat smaller meals...and eat more often during the day...you can take other antacids with your medications ..tums...gaviscon..as long as it doesn't interfere with anything you are taking for your heart. But GERD can be scarey and painful...

Hi there,
Been reading here for a couple of weeks since being diagnosed with GERD. I'm taking Prilosec and it seems to work fine until I eat something I probably shouldn't and as the other poster mentioned, eating a big meal. It does come back almost as if I'm not on medication at all. But, it's not nearly as painful (all the symptoms you've mentioned) as before the meds. Coffee is bad (and I love my coffee) and wine (definitely a no no). I will have a great day if I eat small meals and avoid the food/drinks that I know I should.
