yeah a VERY structured life, I did some bodybuilding and found it best to work out in the am before eating much, usually a light breakfast. also, crunches put pressure on the stomach and force acid up.

Hi Elizabeth, I was diagnosed with gastritis about a year and a half ago, and I too have to be very careful about eating and exercising. When I work out I do it first thing in the morning and don't eat anything beforehand. I've found this works out well; by the time I get to work, I'm ready for a big breakfast, and it's best to have big meals early in the day with acid reflux issues. So I make breakfast my most indulgent meal of the day, higher in fat content (but of course high in carbs too) than my lunch or dinner. If I exercise during the day, I'll try to wait 3-4 hours after eating a real meal. If I'm going to be active most or all of the day, I'll eat as low-fat a breakfast as possible, often just a banana and a couple of slices of (plain) bread, or maybe a bowl of low-fat cereal and skim milk. I haven't tried eating while I'm overly active since I was diagnosed; that was never my habit anyway, I've never had much of an appetite when I'm running around.
As others have said, you need to do a lot of planning with this condition. But when I started exercising regularly I found it helped alleviate my symptoms; I digest my food better and am able to eat more.
