Howdy ya'll,
I'm new here and new to acid reflux. I can't figure out if it's the cause of my problem maybe you can help out. My job requires me to speak to people often and to deliver convincing arguments, etc, thus voice quality is very important to me. However, the quality of my voice wavers/varies from day to day and I can't figure out why. Basically, on bad days, I have trouble speaking with the normally lower, deeper, strong tone of voice that I'm used to. It basically is difficult to carry on a casual, face to face, normal volume conversation. It's like I struggle to not let my voice crack and I can't use a deep voice. It sounds weak. On good days, however, my voice is deep and strong and I don't even have to think about it the quality of my voice; it's just there. So I did some research and saw that "irritative laryngitis" could be the cause, which results from eating too much right before bed, then laying down flat while stomach acids are digesting the food which could travel into the esophogus causing inflammation, and thus poor voice quality. I bought some Pepcid and have tried to not eat at least 3 hours before bed but have had little success, as my voice still seems to have strong days and poor days. It's the strangest thing! SO, is there any advice you can give me? Has anyone had this experience? Are there any somewhat easy solutions? Thanks! -Marcus, Los Angeles |

Hi Marcus. I know what you mean about the voice problems. I have had acid reflux now for many years but just lately (3 months ago) I virtually lost my voice altogether. Went to three doctors and then finally an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who told me it was all caused by acid rising up into my throat and burning my larynx and esophagus!! I take Losec tablets and have been told to increase from 1 per day to 4 per day which I have been doing for only 4 days and I am noticing a big difference. However I dont want to take all those tablets forever so am now on the hunt for a good diet for acid reflux as I am obviously eating/drinking the wrong things. |

Hi Marcus,
I have exactly same problem as you do, I have no other symptoms but lack of voice. My doctor gave me the purple pill Nexium, but I am having problems with it after three days of taking them. I rather change my diet habits. Did you find any solution to your problem? |
