My technique for getting to sleep with reflux, it's the spasms that keep me awake more than the burning, is to not eat anything for at least three hours before bed. I take 2 antacids tablets every half hour startng an hour before sleep. Total of six. Then after about three hours of sleep the burning of acid in my esophagus will wake me up and I take two more tablets. For some reason cherry Rolaids work best.
If I don't do this and let the acid burn my esophagus for one night I will have extreme chest pain for a week. Does anyone know the long term effects of taking all these antacids? Rob |

Hi R,
There's an article on the site on antacids that you might find helpful: http://www.healthcentral.com/acid-reflux/find-drug-40-150.html Best, Amy |
