I am a 30 yr old female I am not overweight nor do I fall under the other risk factors for GERD. Yet 2 weeks ago I started having problems with my stomach namely excess gas and belching and felt like I had too much acid. I saw my dr last week and she told me it was stress didn't examine me and told me to write down my feelings. Needless to say it got worse and I had to go to the emergency room last Friday night. The dr there said they thought it was reflux and gave me Motilium and gaviscon ( because I'm breastfeeding). I do feel a slight improvement since I started the meds, but I still feel like something is stuck in my esophagus, have a burning in the back of my throat occassionally and a feeling of fullness/pressure in behind the breastbone. I've rarely had heartburn in my life, what could have caused this? What should I do if I still feel this way after continuing my treatment for another week? I find it hard to eat certain foods for fear they will stay in my esophagus and the constant feeling of something stuck there is driving me crazy!
any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what to do next!
thanks so much! Frowner

hi JL
I feel for you, it gets worse. meds help, but you will learn what triggers it also. I find most any kind of food you like is generally the trigger. it really helped me to cut out suger, fried foods and some tomato based stuff IE: Italian food, chili and such. I have it pretty bad and sometimes it keeps me up for hours at night. ( weird stuff is on at 2am) I find most people cannot understand it if they haven't had it. if it is really bad I take about a half a spoon of baking soda mixed in water. it tastes terrible but usally gives fairly fast relief for a few hours. stop eating after 7pm helps also. I heard that snacking on apples helps too, gonna try that, I like apples anyway. feel free to contact me anytime

some of those symptoms sound like esophogitis, which I had a few years ago and cleared up pretty quickly with an antibiotic.
