This is strange, about a month ago my lower abdomen starting hurting, dull pain pretty bad. Sometimes it hurts a little higher just under my rib cage.My Dr. did a emergency CT, which came back normal. Then a endo/colonostomy, again normal. He said I had reflux.I started prilosec three days ago.I will give the meds a chance but my question is, do these symptons sound like reflux?? Looking at symptons I see nothing that looks like mine. Thanks for any help.

Sounds similar to what I have. I'm pretty sure mine all started with a bad run-in with food poisoning. Did the CT scan along with blood and stool tests. All came back clear. First doctor suggested Prilosec OTC. Didn't like the first doctors lack of imagination. Tried another doctor who wasn't much better and she game me Prevacid. But, I had a nagging feeling this wasn't acid reflux. I decided to see a certified nutritionist who also happened to be a holistic healer. She believes I have "Leaky Gut". Although all the suppliments she has me on are a little expenisive, after 48 hours I can honestly say I feel better. There is still more work to do to get me back to 100%, but at least I finally feel that's achievable. I've even been able to stop taking the Prilosec/Prevacid. I highly recommend seeing a CN if possible.

Some suggestions:

- avoid the typical acid-reflux causing foods...it's just a good idea

- drink lots of water 48oz+. Avoid city water because it usually contains chlorine and flouride.

- do not drink fluids until at least an hour after eating. They dilute your stomach acid and make it harder to digest your food.

- do not eat fruit until at least an hour after eating. Many fruits will sour/spoil while sitting on top of your other food waiting to be digested.

- Avoid all dairy products from cows. Aside from posible lactose allergies, a component called Casein can give you trouble. All other dairy, go easy. You can still have whey protein if you get good stuff. It will give you energy.

- Follow a low carb, low fat, low glycemic diet. Avoid processed foods. Eat 80% fruits and veggies, and 20% white meats like chicken breast. Fish is good for you too. It is always a good idea to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible. They'll have the highest amount of nutritional value and enzymes to help you digest food.

These things probably won't solve your problem, but it might help. Don't be afraid to see a doctor, but try to find one that is willing to think outside the box. Find a CN if possible too.
